TRIVIA: Shah Rukh Khan Was To Play The Lead In Forrest Gump’s Hindi Remake Way Before Aamir Khan Came Up With Lal Singh Chadda!

It is a well known fact that Aamir Khan is all set to reprise Tom Hanks’ role in the official Hindi remake of Forrest Gump. The Actor had been prepping up for the film for a very long time and it has also been revealed that Kareena Kapoor Khan had to audition for the first time, after so many years of being in the Hindi film industry, to be a part of the film. But would you believe us if we say that Forrest Gump’s remake was though about almost two decades back, in the mid 90s and that Shah Rukh Khan had been signed in for the film.

Yes you read that right. It had just been a few years since SRK’s debut in Bollywood and he was already on his way to become the next big thing in the industry. It was in the mid 90s, somewhere around 1995-98, that director Kundan Shah had thought that he will make a remake of the Hollywood film, The Forrest Gump. In fact, he had also thought of casting Anil Kapoor in the lead role.

As luck would have it, the film got delayed. On an interview with Rediff, the director, who had been the force behind Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron and Kabhie Haa Kabhie Naa, said, “Anil Kapoor realises the dedication required to make such a film.” The interviewer did not prod further.

Announcement was made that he had signed Shah Rukh Khan for the film. In fact, they were to shoot together, but the film ran into production problems and Kundan Shah had not been one of the most diplomatic personalities as well. It was shelved, indefinitely.

Well, we just cannot imagine how the film might have turned out to be if it had been finished.
