All You Need To Know About Varun And Alia's Upcoming Film, Kalank!

There are so many films which start of with a great idea and despite a lot of progress get shelved. These films rarely see the light of the day even though there are big stars backing it up. One such very talked about shelved films included Shiddat. The film had been on the cards for a long time and the cast has changed time and again. But there is finally a good news. The shoot of the film has commenced from today and it is all set to hit the theatres next year.

Here are 7 things you should know about Kalank :

1. Kalank was conceived 15 years back

Kalank, that was earlier called Shiddat, was planned 15 years ago by Karan Johar and his father Yash Johar.

2. The release date

The shoot of Kalank has commenced from today, i.e., 18th April 2018. It will release exactly a year after, i.e., on 19th April 2019.

3. Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit will be reuniting after 22 years

Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit were one of the best jodis of the 90s. Post their alleged relationship, the two were not seen together anymore. But now finally, they will be reuniting with Kalank.

4. Madhuri Dixit had replaced Sridevi  

Sridevi was offered the role of the mother in Shiddat, which she accepted. But post her demise in February 2018, the role went to Madhuri Dixit, who was one of Sridevi's biggest competitors in the 90s. She accepted it and Sridevi's elder daughter Jhanvi wrote a heartfelt post thanking her.

5. The setting and other cast members

The film has been set in the 40s India. Apparently, Madhuri and Sanjay Dutt will play Varun's parents in the film and Aditya Roy Kapur will play his step-brother. Alia Bhatt and Sonakshi Sinha are also a part of the film.

6. The original cast

When Karan Johar had conceived the film, he had thought of casting Shah Rukh Khan , Rani Mukerji , Kajol and Ajay Devgn . But things did not work out.

7. The director

The film will be directed by Abhishek Varman who had helmed Two States . Dharma will be producing the film!
