Varun Dhawan Opts Out Of Karan Johar-Shashank Khaitan’s Mr Lele And Rannbhoomi?

The handsome and extremely talented Varun Dhawan was last seen on the big screen in Remo D’Souza’s musical dance drama Street Dancer 3D, alongside Shraddha Kapoor, Nora Fatehi and Prabhu Deva. While the film did not do too well, the powerful performances were applauded. However, due to the failure of SD3D, the actor has now decided to be more careful and ruthless about his career decisions from here on. In fact, he has reportedly opted out of two of his upcoming projects which were being directed by Shashank Khaitan for this reason.

Varun Dhawan Opts Out Of Karan Johar-Shashank Khaitan’s Mr Lele And Rannbhoomi?

According to a report in Bollywood Hungama, Varun has opted out of director and good friend Shashank Khaitan’s comedy thriller Mr Lele and period drama Rannbhoomi, which were being produced by Karan Johar. A source was quoted saying, “Although Shashank is a close friend, Varun flatly told Karan Johar that he didn’t think the script was up to the mark.” He also feels that his father David Dhawan’s Coolie No. 1, opposite Sara Ali Khan, is ‘enough for laughs this year’. The source further stated, “Varun now wants to sign a serious dramatic film, not light-hearted frivolous fluff stuff.”

While the actor had called Rannbhoomi the biggest film of his career in an interview, it is being said that he doesn’t want to do another costume drama after Karan Johar’s box office dud Kalank. The film was slated to release on Diwali this year whereas Mr Lele, also featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, has not gone on floors yet. Varun and Shashank earlier collaborated for Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania, which were commercially successful films. We wonder if things will eventually work out between the two or not.
