Ekta Kapoor Reveals She Faced Sexism; Shares How She Became A Boss Lady In The Male-Dominated Industry

One of the most popular and adored personalities of the Indian entertainment industry, Ekta Kapoor began her career at the age of 15. She started her journey as an intern and later decided to venture into the magical land of television and films as a producer. She blessed the audience with over 130 soap operas under her banner Balaji Telefilms Limited such as Hum Paanch, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Naagin and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, produced super hit films like Dream Girl, Veere Di Wedding and Udta Punjab and also launched 40 web TV series online through her digital app ALTBalaji

However, her journey was not easy. In a recent chat with Pinkvilla, the talent powerhouse opened up on rumors regarding her temper issues and being trolled. She shared, “I was like there has been a history of male producer, directors on the set who abuse constantly and they are constantly losing their temper. I used to be assertive. From having rumours about me breaking my mobile to breaking table, me doing some seriously whacked out stuff I had everything. From my tika to my rings, to making me sound like an alpha b****, I was out there presented like this freak of nature.”

She went on to add, “I mean you have to scared of me because I was doing something which was clearly my job. I was working with so many men initially and just being assertive was becoming a problem. So, I was like I need this done. And of course, I had become caricaturish ‘she wants her things done, she thinks no end of herself’.” Ekta also stated, “Sexism to the point of not taking instructions from a woman was almost mandate or bitching her out because guess what she thinks no end of herself. I am like okay then just do the job and I’ll be okay with you.”

Well, she truly is a boss lady and there’s a lot we can learn from her. All we have to say is this – you go girl!
