Rashami Desai’s Mother Rasila On Changing The Actress’ Name : "I Was Scared Of My Family And Society"

After winning hearts with her spectacular acting skills and charming screen presence in multiple TV shows, the actress went on to participate in Salman Khan’s reality show Bigg Boss season 13 and not only wowed the audience with her strong personality but also emerged as one of the top 5 contestants. While her journey in the entertainment industry is like an open book, fans don’t know much about the struggles that Rashami faced at the beginning of her career.

For instance, did you know Rashami’s actual name is Shivani? While the actress has shared this fact with her fans before, the reason behind it was always unclear. Well, in a recent chat with Pinkvilla, her mother Rasila Desai revealed that she had taken the decision to change her daughter’s name before she entered the entertainment industry as she was scared of her society. So she changed her name from Shivani to Divya. However, she later changed her daughter’s name to ‘Rashami’ after getting advice from an astrologer.

Rasila ji went on to share, “I was a single parent, I did not have a husband to support me. Also, in our caste, she was the first woman to enter this field. Our entire family was very educated and did not think of acting as a career. But, I supported her. I was scared of my family and society, so I changed her name. But my sister was there to support me throughout.”

Interestingly, Rashami had earlier wanted to become a choreographer like Saroj Khan or an air hostess. However, she took the opportunities that came her way, worked really hard and eventually became one of the most adored personalities of Indian television. Well, we sure are glad Rashami took the big leap! She is a true inspiration.
