Anand Mahindra wants to acquire Rajinikanth’s Thar from Kaala poster

Anand Mahindra wants to acquire Rajinikanth’s Thar from Kaala poster

Even the God’s throne becomes an object of worship.

The recently-revealed poster of Rajinikanth’s upcoming movie Kaala has aroused curiosity of businessman Anand Mahindra. And it’s not the story or Rajinikanth’s character that’s got Mahindra curious, but the vehicle featured in the poster.

On Monday, the Mahindra group chairman tweeted the poster, saying:

Then came another tweet through which Anand Mahindra sought to acquire the Thar SUV for the company’s museum:

“Whoever knows the whereabouts of the #Thar used for this shoot please let us know. I’d like to acquire it for our company auto museum”.

The makers of Kaala, Wunderbar Films, soon responded to the tweet, and looks like the deal has been sealed.

Wunderbar Films is the production house of Rajinikanth’s son-in-law and actor, director, producer Dhanush K Raja. Pa. Ranjith, who made Kabali with Rajinikanth last year, is the director of Kaala.

In the poster, Thar, a Mahindra SUV launched in 2010, holds the frame together with a fish-eye view of the Mumbai. When one user pointed out the car in the poster has been photoshopped, Anand Mahindra replied: “The car that was photoshopped is still a collector’s item!”

Anand Mahindra is known for his Twitter stunts to promote the auto-to-software brand. Only last month, he gifted a four-wheeled Mahindra Supro to the owner of a “three-wheeler Scorpio”.

Monday’s conversation on Twitter brought several facts about the vehicle featured in the poster, which may be seen in the movie as well.

A quick search on Vaahan.nic.in, government’s own vehicle registration number search engine, shows that the number -- MH 01 BR 1956 -- is registered against a Piaggio Ape cargo delivery van in Mumbai, and so is a fictional licence plate in the movie.

Another user tried to throw light on the vehicle’s registration number which sets the social background of what looks like another gangster Rajini movie.

Just like any other Rajinikanth starrer, Kaala is getting the usual hype. The movie went on the floors this Sunday, and will have dialogues in Hindi, Tamil and Marathi.
