A lot of actors have essayed the role of cop in Tamil movies but actors playing fire fighters are rarely seen. Director Ashok Kumar’s forthcoming movie titled Neruppuda will revolve around five boys from north Chennai who wish to become fire fighters. Actors Vikram Prabhu and Nikki Galrani will be playing the main protagonists in the flick.

About the movie, the director says, "A lot of directors have made movies on policemen, but I wanted to do something different that is new to Tamil audience. I know for a fact that movies about fire fighters are a rarity in Tamil cinema. The movie has two major fire-fighting scenes and shooting them were very challenging. Two fire accident episodes feature in the film — one that takes place in the 1980s and the other in 2017. We erected a huge set and we burnt around 80 huts to shoot this particular sequence."

The filmmaker did not use computer graphics for the scenes involving fire. To make the fire scenes look real, the team used real fire with proper safety measures. Director Ashok Kumar said that he found it very scary work with fire in the movie as it was very risky. He even exclaimed his happiness when he got to know that superstar Rajinikanth launched the audio of the film at Sivaji Ganesan's residence.
