Geethanjali Selvaraghavan Talks About Maalai Neraththu Mayakam

January 1 will mark the debut of Geethanjali Selvaraghavan’s directorial venture with the film Maalai Neraththu Mayakam. Geethanjali revealed, “My film is a love story. It is about the lives of two people who are completely opposite to each other. They come from dissimilar backgrounds and different societies. How they survive circumstances that tear their lives apart forms the crux of the story”.

The director added, “It deals with several issues. For instance, how do you cope with relationships? In fact, do you really even have to cope at all? How far does one go to make a relationship work? How much of oneself does one give to make a relationship work?” She also stated that the script has been written by her husband, director Selvaraghavan.

Talking about the script, Geethanjali revealed, “Given the sensitivity with which he has handled each character, this will be one of the most complex scripts that he has ever written. There is also a potential backlash that we are expecting but I am willing to stick my neck out for this script. One reason I wanted to do this script was because I loved it. This issue has been dealt with by other Indian films as well. But they seemed to brush it under the carpet”.
