Rajinikanth was supposed to inaugurate the festival but his apparent health issues are unlikely to allow him. A few days ago the film industry was abuzz with reports that Rajinikanth has been invited as the chief guest for the inaugural function of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Vishnu Wagh, vice-chairman, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), issued a statement saying, "We have invited Rajinikanth to inaugurate the festival on November 20. But we are not sure about his participation as he is reportedly leaving for a medical treatment. The date of inauguration is likely to clash with his (Rajinikanth's) medical treatment, due to which his presence is unsure although we wanted him to be there for inauguration and we have extended the invitation.” The opening ceremony of the 11-day festival is scheduled to take place at the newly-constructed multi-purpose indoor stadium near Goa University.
