‘Baahubali’ Defeated By ‘Court’

‘Baahubali’, which shattered many records at the box office in India as well as overseas, has failed to get an entry to the Oscars. The S.S. Rajamouli directorial lost to Marathi film ’Court’, and now the Chaitanya Tamhane directorial is India’s entry for the Oscars. The news has come as a big disappointment for the ‘Baahubali’ fans.

Interestingly, ‘Court’ marks the directorial debut of Chaitanya Tamhane, and his debut directorial venture has been chosen for the Oscars. That is quite an achievement. Amol Palekar, Chairman of India's Oscars jury, announced that the Marathi film is India's official entry to Oscars in the best foreign film category.

Mahesh Babu starrer ‘Srimanthudu’ was also competing with Prabhas starrer ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Court’ for the entry to the Oscars. The Film Federation of India included the Koratala Siva directorial in the final 30 films to send to Oscar. The federation was happy and felt proud that they had more than one film that they could nominate for The Academy Awards.
