HC to decide on Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam tomorrow

The Madras High Court today has not provided any immediate relief to actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan on the two-week ban on release of his ambitious filmVishwaroopamand deferred its order till tomorrow. The court has also asked the megastar to hold discussions with the Muslim groups which are opposing the film and work out an amicable solution. Industry experts are saying that the film that has been made on a whopping budget of Rs. 95 crore is expected to cause an estimated loss of Rs. 30 crore. Distributor Rajesh Thadani told IANS, “A film likeVishwaroopam, which was promoted at a huge scale, will perhaps have to bear a loss of around Rs.20 to Rs.30 crore. But it also depends on the fate of the film. If the film again gets delayed, then the loss might even cross more than Rs.30 crore.” "If a single-screen theatre shells out about Rs.5-Rs.10 lakh for a film involving a big star, then only good opening can help break even in two weeks' time,” he added. In the meantime, the loss ofVishwaroopamhas resulted in gain of many other films which got released on January 25. While Kannada filmVaradanayakastarring Sudeep received a good opening, Hindi filmRace 2is also doing very good without any big competition at the box office.
