Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor talks about the current status of season 2

Ewan McGregor first appeared as the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars : Episode 1 and would go on to reprise the role for its two sequels.

Nearly two decades later the actor would once again pick up the role for the Disney + series, Obi-Wan Kenobi which was released earlier this year.

The series had the biggest opening on the streaming platform beating out another Star Wars title The Mandalorian.

The story focuses on an older Kenobi living on the desert planet of Tatooine and secretly protecting the young Luke Skywalker.

While it was meant as a standalone series, there is room for a potential second season.

During Celebrity Fan Fest, Ewan McGregor took to the stage to reveal the status of Season 2

"I'm totally up for it guys, I want to do it. I'm absolutely honest, there's no plan to make one yet. But I think - I'm pretty sure they're just biding their time. I think - but nobody's approached me as of yet."

There is a strong possibility that Disney will announce a second season for the show considering its success as well as the popularity Ewan McGregor has with Star Wars fans.

As to what direction the second season could take remains to be seen, at the end of the first season, Obi-Wan finally meets the force ghost of his former master Qui-Gon Jinn played by Liam Neeson to continue his training.

There is also the possibility of exploring the return of Obi-Wan's old nemesis Darth Maul,

As for Darth Vader appearing in the second season remains low as the two already had their rematch in the finale it would feel like a rehash.

And seeing as there are rumors of Disney making a stand-alone Darth Vader series, it would be better to see the Sith lord play the lead rather than being a side character again.

Hopefully, we will get an official announcement at this year's Disney fan event 'D23', which is set to happen in September in California.
