Actor-producer Vishal is known for making some unconventional choices. In line with his growing reputation as a 'rebel' in the Tamil film industry, he seems to be planning to star in a political drama.

According to the latest industry buzz, Vishal has been tapped to lead a biopic on the life of BJP leader Annamalai. An official confirmation on the same is awaited.

Before joining politics and becoming a popular BJP leader in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai served as one of the top cops in Karnataka. If the rumours are true, it is unclear whether the biopic will focus on Annamalai's life during his service in the police department or his eventful political career. It's safe to assume that the movie might focus on both parts of Annamalai's public life.

It's also no secret that Vishal nurtures big political ambitions and his plunge into electoral politics is not a matter of if, but when. Recently, after Thalapathy Vijay announced his political entry, Vishal also released a statement on his political plans. "I've never assisted people with political ambitions in mind, and I'll continue to help to the best of my abilities. If nature prompts me to make a different decision in the future, I won't hesitate to lend my voice to people's causes," Vishal had said in the statement.

In the meantime, Vishal is busy with multiple projects. He was last seen in director Hari's "Rathnam". The movie opened in cinemas last month to poor reviews. The film was described as a "typical Hari movie" with very few redeeming moments. Subsequently, the film also failed to strike a chord with the audiences.

"Rathnam" was overshadowed at the Tamil Nadu box office by Vijay's "Ghilli", which was re-released last month to coincide with its 20th anniversary.
