This is one of my favourate movie. i just loved this movie... anyone can watch it any number of times and will nt get bored too.. there is really nice story line and picturization is awesome outstanding.. story is FRESH. Charecters played there role perfectly. I already seen this movie 3 times and still i crazy about this movie. i love the dressing and tattoz are of this movie. the story line is combination of Emotions, Romance, Parenthood, Action nd very spicey. It is a reflection of the crossover times we live in that many movies are no longer evaluated on a stand-alone scale - especially not when the movies are based on successful franchises from alternative visual media. Such is the situation with "Prince of Persia". Our expectations of videogame based movies have been dragged so low by cringe-worthy disasters like "Doom" or "Aeon Flux" that PoP shines in comparison, when it would be judged rather insipid as a stand alone offering. Scripted by Jordan Mechner - the original creator of the iconic videogame series - PoP takes the smart route by not trying to recreate an exact storyline from the games, instead weaving in familiar elements into a fresh story line. A Persian prince leads his troops in the storming of a city, finds a dagger capable of magically influencing time itself, is accused murdering his (adoptive) father the King of Persia, and flees with the beautiful female princess of the fallen city to try and clear his name while uncovering the real conspirators. Standard sword and sorcery stuff for fans of the genre, with appropriate performances by Ben Kingsley as a vizier and Jake Gyllenhaal as the rogue-ish prince, with both being overshadowed by the consistently brilliant Alfred Molina in a cameo as the shady Sheik Amar.Casual watchers will find enough to make them happy - there are enough action cuts, CGI depictions of siege warfare, uniquely skilled sidekick characters, prince-princess sexual tension moments and evil-looking quasi-magical assassins to keep them munching on your popcorn till the end. More discerning fans of the genre/series will encounter disappointment when they scratch the surface.The device of time manipulation (a cornerstone of the game series) is hardly explored, the Arab princess looks distinctly like a European tourist playing dress-up on a Nile cruise, character development of the prince's brothers and best friend is patchy at best, and a chunk of time is devoted to promoting the "Hassansins" (no, no spelling error) that seemed like it was a directive from Ubisoft in order to cash in on the publicity gained by another popular game from their development studio - Assassin's Creed.The end result is that you are left feeling like you watched a decent movie that could have been so much better if only it decided what it wanted to be, and stuck to its vision by employing an appropriate female lead, a few more plot-devices based on the game itself, and cut out the pointless commercially motivated add-ons.Bottom Line - Prince of Persia avoids several traps that videogame inspired movies usually fall headlong into, and in doing so becomes worth a watch as a "leave your brain at home" action flick. The visuals are nice but not overwhelmingly so, the acting (barring Alfred Molina's effortlessly comic performance) is average, and the action is all a bit "been there, seen that". If you are expecting a sword and sorcery classic, however, you'd be better off spending your money on a Director's Cut DVD of Conan the Barbarian. view less

The source of inspiration being the game by Ubisoft Corporation,the movie fell short of the expectations.For people who did not play this awesome game series,the movie is a new concept and a totally new aspect of action. Some people might actually like it very much.
But for a true "Prince of Persia" fan,the movie fails to live upto its legacy.The idea of showing the price a drunkard and a jester in many parts of the movie, completely destroys the aura that the game created. The prince is suppose to be a noble warrior petrified by his life and his new encounter with the dimension of time.
Moreover the dialogs are pathetic,people doing monday and tuesday in that era and that too in Persia is not actually logical.
Also the way the story ends is actually quite different from the game,maybe they rectify it in the next movie. But for a bird's view, the movie is good for whom who didn't play the game and a dissapointment for those who are POP fans (except a couple of action sequence).

Film: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

As I nestled in my seat at the theater, watching the opening scenes of the movie, I was stuck by two things. First, the Persian, Arabian setting of the movie with small brick houses, camels, tunics and lots of sand, reminiscent of the Arabian Nights and Alibaba and 40 Thieves. The second undoubtedly, was Jake Gyllenhaal. I wondered if this was the same silent, brooding, vulnerable Jake I had seen in Brokeback Mountain and The Day After Tomorrow. Reportedly, Jake had put in quite an effort to build muscles and gain weight for this role. And it shows.

But as the movie progressed, something else stuck me even harder: the breathtaking stunts and sword (and knife) fights with minimal CGI effect. In this age of gizmos, and sleek weapons, it is so refreshing to see the hero fighting the baddies the old fashioned way and yet retaining an essential element of modern action, namely, speed. So you will see Prince Dastan (Jake) jumping and flying at lightening speed with two swords in both hands killing his adversaries with relentless ease.

Dont expect Prince of Persia to be a Crouching Tiger or a Gladiator. Its not pathbreaking cinema. Its cliched, cheeky and for the most part, is a collection of bits and pieces, from the video games of the same name and from other Arabian action movies. In fact, you would be unfair if you expected that from a movie based on a video game. This movie is all about fast paced action, a tight script and loads of visual entertainment.

Dastan, born in the Persian ghettos, gets adopted by the Persian King Sharaman, after his childhood act of bravery, and grows up to be a third Prince, along with Tus and Garsiv, his brothers. Based on the information from a spy, the three brothers raid the sacred Kingdom of Alamat for secretly amassing weapons. The Princess of Alamat, Tamina, senses danger and tries to safeguard a dagger. But both the dagger and the princess are captured. After a series of events, The King of Persia is killed and Dastan is accused of his murder and so, he along with Tamina, fled to the wilderness along with the dagger. The dagger as it turns out, is no ordinary dagger, and has the power to turn back time. The movie, from then on becomes a struggle to acquire the dagger. The Princess wants it because she is its guardian, Dastan wants it because he has to prove his innocence to his brother and the evil uncle Nizam (Ben Kingsley) because he wants to go long back in time to undo something that he had done. But Nizam doesnt know that What he intends to do will not take him back in time but destroy the world through a sandstorm.

The actors have done justice to their Roles. Jake doesnt have much to do apart from fighting. Gemma is gorgeous and enticing as Princess Tamina and has some pretty good moves too. Her romantic chemistry with Jake is tantalising. The two come together close frequently, and every time you get a feeling (and wish) that they go ahead and kiss. But alas they dont, save once! Disappointingly, a veteran actor like Ben Kingsley doesnt have much to do in this movie. Even his evilness comes out only towards the end. But the surprise package of the movie is Alfred Molina as the greedy businessman Sheikh Amar who is only interested in tax free income. He doesnt get much screen time, but play with aplomb whatever little he gets.

Coming from the makers of Pirates of The Carribean, you can expect the same level of technical brilliance from this movie too, including script and editing. What is probably missing here is the charisma of Johny Depp. Jake is good. But he is not Depp. Neither is Prince Dastan, Captain Jack Sparrow.

Bottomline

Watch this movie if you havent. Watch it for the action, watch it for the Persian magic and mystique, watch it for the beautiful costumes and the golden, sand laden, palaces, watch it for the humor of Alfred Molina, and if that is not enough reason, watch it for the kissless romance of the prince and princess. You will find it heartwarming to see them holding each others hands in the end, barely knowing each other, even after going through a magical adventure together. In short, watch it for pure entertainment. view less
