Break up tips from Yudi

Having broken up a number of times in the film, Happy Ending, Yudi (played Saif Ali Khan) has now turned an expert on break ups. The stylish, eccentric, Los Angeles-based writer, who lives life on his own terms, has some interesting tips on how to break up.

On what Yudi dubs as National Break Up Day, today (November 18), he shares break up tips that are tried and tested. “I personally believe that the ability to handle a break up has a lot to do with how much experience one has in handling relationships. Today, we have more than 50 ways to break up with someone — over a phone call, email, social media, etc,” says Yudi, adding that the advent of social media has also made breaking away from your ex somewhat difficult.

“Even if you change your relationship status to ‘single’ or un-friend or block your ex, you still have old pictures and have shared status together. And in your newsfeed, you may see your ex looking even better after the break up or already with someone else,” he explains. Thus, the suggestion from this relationship guru is simple: “Breaking up is like ripping off a band-aid; do it quick and fast and all will be fine.” He also emphasises on the importance of the location, where one is planning to announce the parting.

“Location is key to the break up. Pick a spot that has some people but not too many, in case she tries to kill you, or slaps you in public,” he reasons. However, he isn’t in favour of blaming the partner for the break up. “Never blame your partner; always say it’s your and only your fault. Trust me, it helps them move on sooner,” he says. And if that doesn’t work, just use some smooth talk, he adds. “Coming up with the right excuse and guaranteeing a happy ending is the smooth-talking hipster’s speciality,” he says. “Oh and, by the way, Happy National Break Up Day!” he adds.
