5 Things You Need To Know About Kunal Kapoor Starrer Veeram

Ever since Baahubali changed the equation of Indian cinema by presenting a Hollywood-level epic adventure, other filmmakers have been wanting to do the same.

And the latest example of that is Veeram.

Directed by Jayaraj, the film has gained a lot of attention for hiring Kunal Kapoor, who first caught attention by starring in Rang De Basanti. The actor made headlines when the poster of the film was released, which showed the sculpted bare back of his character.

Here are the other things we found out about the upcoming movie:

Inspired by Kerala folklore and William Shakespeare's Macbeth.

The film will tell a story of Chandu (Kunal Kapoor), a skilled warrior in Northern Kerala folklore. Also, a lot of the film's themes will be inspired by the classic Macbeth as well.

Kunal Kapoor is not the hero but the anti-hero.

The story of character is in fact a depiction of a metamorphosis. According to the director, Chandu is a celebrated warrior and ends up being frenzied with power.

A Hindi film. An English film. A Malyalam film.

The film will in fact be a trilingual film, wherein there is no dubbing but one scene is shot three times. Kunal Kapoor, in an interview, explains the method:

"The film has been shot in three different languages at the same time. So, you finish the scene in Hindi, then you do the same scene in English and then in Malayalam."

It took incredible effort in the gym from the actor.

We all have been in awe of the actor's transomation. In an interview, he shed light on the gruelling process that he went through to prepare for the role:

"I spent a lot of time in the gym, putting up about 12 kg of muscles. Besides these, the film is set in the world of Kalaripayattu so it was very important for us to learn the art form and we the trainer trained us for four months on Kalaripayattu and using weapons because it was very important that we trained hard enough to make it look natural. So physically there was lots of transformation and a major part of time went into training."

Release date

Made on a 20 crore budget, the film opened the BRICS Film Festival on September 2 and will release later this year.
