Dum Laga Ke Haisha: The Heavyweight Champion

Dum Laga Ke Haisha: The Heavyweight Champion

With the freshness of plus size, Dum Laga Ke Haisha doesn’t seem to make any extra efforts to kick-start its journey. The Sharat Katariya directorial project, in the simplified manner, has explained that obese people do have a heart, they do feel, and, yes, they do love.

Set in Haridwar in 1994, the romcom revolves around Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana) who succumbs to his parents’ horizontally-challenged choice, Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar), for marriage. Apart from Sanjay Mishra and Vidushi Mehra, the Yash Raj Films production gives a musical treat to the fans of Kumar Sanu who appears for a cameo. Kumar Sanu has also sung Dard Karara, which is composed by Anu Malik. Apart from the 90’s hit singer, Monali Thakur has mesmerized with Moh Moh Ke Dhaage.

Ever since the trailer was released, debutant Bhumi Pednekar has become the talk of the town for being the out-of-shape heroine of Yash Raj Films. With this film, the production house seems to follow the trend of uncommon, including unconventional story, real touch and low budget. It also underwent audio cuts, as the censor board had objected over some Hindustani cuss words before issuing the U certificate.

Releasing alongside Hey Bro (comedy) and Ab Tak Chappan 2 (action), the overweight love story has proved its mettle by pulling crowds to theatres even without much promotion being done for it. But, the dark clouds of ICC Cricket World Cup might affect the box office collection over the weekend. Let’s see, how far Dum Laga Ke Haisha reaches to establish the ‘Love comes in all sizes’ theory.
