Imran Khan Thinks He's Blamed For His Flops, But Does Not Get the Credit for the Hits

Bollywood actor Imran Khan says that he has always had to single-handedly shoulder the burden of his films that have not done well at the box office. “When a film fails, like in the case of Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbaai Dobara (2013), which was a massive franchise film with a big director, big stars and a big producer, the entire failure of the film was hung around my neck like a jooton ki mala (a garland of shoes), as if it had flopped only because of me,” he says.

At the same time, the 32-year-old feels that when his film actually does do well, more often than not, he is not “given the credit” for it. “Dekha jaye toh maine achhi khaase hits di hain (If you look at it, I have delivered a fair number of hits), and first-time directors ke saath (and that too with first-time directors),” he adds.

While his performance in his latest film, with Kangana Ranaut, has been appreciated, Imran says that he still feels he deserved more. “I think there is a long way to go. Getting credit for one film is delightful,” says the actor, who adds that he is now clear about what he needs in order to give his best to a film. “Looking back at my work, I have done enough to know the conditions that are needed to do good work — basically, I need a happy and comfortable environment. In a film where I’m not happy, you can see it on my face,” he says.
