Interstellar dents The Shaukeens opening weekend

Akshay Kumar’s The Shaukeens which was the top box office release this Friday, could only range as an average opener through its weekend, despite heavy promotion and popular music. The film was only seen performing in urban centres and multiplexes while the mass areas largely disappointed.

The film opened to a modest 5 crore on Friday, saw a little growth on Saturday earning 6.35 and ranged between 8-9 on Sunday. With this, the film garnered almost 20 crores in its opening weekend falling touch short of what the trade pundits had predicted. While the average word of mouth could be sited as a reason, the film’s major trouble has come as a competition in Interstellar. Christopher Nolan’s huge Hollywood prospect made a big dent in what could have been a healthy figure for the makers of The Shaukeens. The Hollywood biggie with good reviews and interesting premise attracted a lot of urban audiences towards it.
