Irrfan Khan Wants To Work With Tabu In A Comedy

He has had a successful year so far with Piku and Jurassic World. And now, two of Irrfan Khan’s films — Jazbaa and Talvar — are lined up for release next month. But the actor is not worried about any clash. We caught up with him post one of his shoots, as he engaged us in a candid conversation about his off-beat chemistry with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in his next. Here, he also speaks about his Japanese TV show, and how he wants to promote wildlife in his home state, Rajasthan.

Are you nervous about having two back-to-back releases?

No, in fact, no one is talking about the so-called clash, as the films are so different. Even the experience which we are offering is very different. A clash happens when Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have releases on the same day.

How would you describe your chemistry with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in your next?

There is not much romance, but the chemistry we share is amazing, and I am waiting for people to tell us what they think about it. There is an extra shade that I want to bring to my performance. It was an extremely good experience to work with her. Long back, we had once had dinner together in Cannes (France) when we hardly knew each other. Now, we have come to know each other.

Is romance the extra shade that you would like to add to your roles, considering the fact that you are doing a love story with Tabu?

I haven’t done a lot of romance in films. I know I can engage and entertain the audience with love stories. For instance, Maqbool (2004) was a love story. If I am given a chance, I believe I can bring something extra to the table. With Tabu, the reports about our pairing have just come out, nothing has been finalised yet. With her, I would actually like to do a comedy. She is very good at it. It is on my agenda.

What was it like to work in a Japanese and Canadian co-production, for which you were in Lithuania recently?

I travelled to Lithuania for the first time. It was a very different experience. This was the first time that I had the opportunity to interact with members of the Japanese and Canadian movie industries. Unfortunately, I cannot talk much about the role, as the editing process is going on. The show will probably go on-air next year. My intention is to work for the global audience. The Lunchbox (2013) and Qissa (2013) opened the European market for me.

Do you believe in planning your career?

I don’t plan; my plans don’t work. I stopped planning years ago. I am like a wave; wherever I go, I do my bit to justify the opportunities I’m getting. I don’t want to misuse them…so that this flow, and one’s effort, can create new possibilities.

We hear you have taken on a project with the government of Rajasthan.

You want to do something for your state; you want to see it prosper. So, if someone asks you to contribute, then why not? There is great wildlife in Rajasthan, which people don’t know about. I would like people to know about it.
