Kalki Koechlin's Strong String On Breaking Stereotype

Kalki Koechlin's Strong String On Breaking Stereotype

Kalki Koechlin has gracefully pulled off both vulnerable and opinionated characters at the same time. She carved a niche for herself after her explicit performances in 'Shaitan', 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Margarita with a Straw'. However, the National Award winning actress says she has been typecast a number of times in Bollywood, but thinks that it is totally in an actor’s hand to take up the right script and go for an experimental presentation to break a stereotype.

When questioned about how she tackles with how the film industry tends to tag actors, the 33-year-old actress said, "I have been typecast every time. While after 'Dev D', I got offers for many roles of a prostitute, people offered me roles of a spoiled brat and a physically disabled (character) after the release of 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' and 'Margarita with a Straw'. "Therefore, I think you are only as old as your last film. However, it is my job to break that stereotype and choose the right script to change your image."

Kalki feels that all the characters in the film, including hers, face quite a turbulent phase where no one discusses their problems with each other. And hence after a point of time, there is an emotional outbreak. On the work front, the actress is filming for Nicholas Kharkongor's 'Mantra', starring, Rajat Kapoor, Shiv Pandit and Lushin Dubey.
