PIL seeking ban on 'Lalla lalla lori, daru ki katori' dismissed

A PIL that was filed against the song 'Lalla lalla lori, daru ki katori' from Welcome 2 Karachi has been dismissed by Delhi High Court. “It is not necessary to multiply the issue. This court is already seized with similar issue. The court has already taken cognizance of the issue raised in this writ petition, so it is not necessary to entertain the same. For the above reasons, it is dismissed”, said the court.

Citizens for Better India, an NGO, filed the PIL claiming that the song is “highly objectionable as it will have an extremely negative effect on the society and especially the children, and also promotes consumption of intoxicating drinks which are injurious to health”. The NGO alleged that it’s a case of surrogate advertising as the word ‘daru’ is used in the song.  Also, manipulation of nursery rhyme for liquor was objected, considering its effect on toddlers.

Delhi High Court is already hearing two cases related to similar PILs that were filed in the past against ‘Chaar Bottle Vodka’ and ‘Mai alcoholic hoon’. These PILs seeking ban on the two songs were filed by two advocates. Now that the PIL on 'Lalla lalla lori, daru ki katori' has been dismissed, the movie is set to release with the song next week.
