Pooja confirmed the news, saying, "After Citylights, we have decided that Hansal is the right person to remake Saaransh." Further, Mahesh Bhatt said, "Hansal has always articulated to me that Saaransh has been a guiding star in his journey. In fact, he tried making a film like Saaransh in his younger days but did not succeed. I think he will do justice to my film."

Saaransh was a story revolving around the life of a retired headmaster and his wife living in Mumbai. The elderly Maharashtrian couple loses their only child in a mugging incident in New York. Anupam Kher made his debut with this film by portraying the role of retired headmaster. When the film completed 30 years on May 25, Kher had tweeted, " Saaransh changed my life, my thinking forever. It made me a better person. It's not a film but a philosophy for me." Hansal may cast Rajkummar Rao to play the role of B.V. Pradhan, the retired headmaster played by Anupam Kher in the original.
