Saif tells why he couldn’t be a cricketer like his father

We’re not sure Saif Ali Khan would have made as promising a cricketer as his father was, but the actor himself admits to not have been ‘gifted’ to play cricket. While he was in Kolkata for the IPL opening ceremony, Saif told what he lacked to be a cricketer and not an actor.

According to Chote Nawab, he was not given the ‘gift’ of playing cricket and was a late bloomer. “I am a late bloomer. I sort of came into my own in my 30s, which I think was far too late for a cricketing career. I played school cricket. But I don’t think I have a god’s gift kind of natural genius that my father had or all our players have,” he said. He generously accepted that he was not as quick as other kids and didn’t have those reflexes either. “It’s a gift which you can spot early on. By the time you are 10 or 11, people can see the genius in you. Your reflexes are better than most people. But I don’t think I had that gift. My gifts lie in other areas,” he added.

Talking about the genius of his father Nawab Pataudi, Saif said it was a great feat for him to have only played with eye. “My father stopped playing international cricket when I was five years old, but I have watched him play. I remember him as a stylish batsman but his greatest feat of course was playing with one eye, which is quite incredible,” he said. While we understand his side of the story, we believe he has made himself to be a much actor than a cricketer he would have ever been.
