Shoojit Sircar ropes in John Abraham for his next

After the remarkable success of Madras Cafe, the Shoojit-John duo team up again for Sircar’s next directorial venture, based on footballer Sibdas Bhaduri. The talented director has reportedly signed in John Abraham to play the lead role and whether he would also produce the film remains uncertain.

Shoojit’s film is in its early pre-production stage and is titled ‘1911’. Based on the life of Sibdas Bhaduri who led poor Indians to march a victory against the British in a football game, ‘1911’ is a sports drama. Shoojit was however about to begin his beloved project ‘Red Carpet’ based on the life of filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh. He shelved the project following Rituparno’s demise last year saying “Only he could have done justice to the role by enacting himself on screen and no one else, I’m sad I have to shelve the project”. Sircar has directed successful films like Madras Cafe, Vicky Donor and Yahaan.

Interestingly, this is not the first time John would play a footballer. He did so in the 2007 average grosser ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’. John is a known sports enthusiast and has already started preparing for the challenging role. The film would go on floors later this year and is expected to release in 2015.
