Even after bagging as many as five awards at the 62nd National Awards this year, Haider director Vishal Bharadwaj feels sad since Shahid couldn’t win the best actor honour. According to the maker, Shahid was most worthy of winning the award for his remarkable performance in the film.

“I’m very happy with the film winning five national awards but I’m a bit sad for Shahid. He should have got the National Award for Best Actor. I feel his was the best male performance”, Vishal told. The controversial film had won several awards emerging the most honoured film of the year. Vishal is one filmmaker who is believed to bring out the best from his actors. Right from 2009’s Kaminey to last year’s Haider, Shahid too owes all his best performances to him.

Talking about the importance of awards and if it plays a part while filming a project, Vishal said, “While making a film, you are only concerned about one thing — whether what’s written on paper can be achieved or not. So, at that time, awards are nowhere in your thoughts. But if someone says that he doesn’t care about National Awards, then that person is lying”. Vishal is currently composing music for the Broadway version of Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding.
