X-Men: Apocalypse is set to start filming next April

With the summer of 2015 all but set, eyes have quickly turned to the summer of 2016. Most of the talk has been about Batman v Superman andCaptain America 3, but don’t forget there’s another major superhero film coming mere weeks after those. It’s X-Men Apocalypse, the sequel to the massive hit X-Men Days of Future Past, was the #4 movie of the summer grossing over $230 million domestic and $745 million worldwide. Bryan Singer is currently attached to direct Apocalypse, with a cast that so far includes James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine).

X-Men: Days of Future Past was the first movie in the franchise to be filmed in Montreal, but the series has actually been all over Canada (Wolverine's home country!) The first X-Men was primarily filmed around Ontario, and the first two sequels also spent time in Alberta and Manitoba provinces. Both Wolverine movies took their business down to Australia (star Hugh Jackman's home country), and X-Men: First Classwas primarily shot in the UK. So, in a way, it's kind of nice that between Days of Future Past and Apocalypse we'll see a touch of stability.

The source that revealed that X-Men is coming back to Montreal also told that the movie has already planned its pre-production schedule. According to them, the production office for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will open next month, and construction on sets will start up in December. All of that work will lead up to April, which is when filming is reported to begin. The reason why production isn't scheduled to start until next spring is because the release date isn't until May 27, 2016, which still feels like a long time away. At least we'll have titles likeThe Avengers: Age of Ultron(May 1, 2015), Fantastic Four (June 19, 2015), Ant-Man (July 17,2015), Batman v  Superman: Dawn of Justice (March 25, 2016), and Captain America 3(May 6, 2016) to help scratch our comic book movie crave between now and then.
