Chloe Bennet Opens Up About Changing Her Name

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D actress Chloe Bennet has recently revealed that she had to change her name because Hollywood is racist. The actress's birth name was Chloe Wang and she was raised both American and Chinese. Chloe said that she had to change her name to Bennet because her surname 'Wang' would make people in Hollywood uncomfortable.

“Changing my last name doesn't change the fact that my blood is half-Chinese, that I lived in China, speak Mandarin, or that I was culturally raised both American and Chinese”, the actress explained through a post on social media. She went on to say, “It means I had to pay my rent, and Hollywood is racist and wouldn't cast me with a last name that made them uncomfortable”.

This comes after actor Ed Skrein left his role in the upcoming ‘Hellboy’ flick. He was cast as Major Ben Daimiom, who was an Asian character in the graphic novels. Ed also took to his social media handle and shared with the fans that because he feels representation of ethnic diversity is important, he will be exiting the project. Chloe also praised the actor for this bold move and thanked him for the tough decision he had to make.
