'Insurgent' wins box-office battle

The second installment in the Divergent series ‘Insurgent’ took the number one spot at the box office this weekend. The Shailene Woodley-starrer brought in $54 million domestically. ‘Insurgent’ cost $110 million to produce.

The live-action Disney’s fairytale, Cinderella, dropped to second, but still manages $34-million. The weekend’s other debuting mainstream release, Sean Penn‘s The Gunman had a disappointing opening weekend, taking in only $5 million. Liam Neeson managed to show some spark in box office with his thriller Run All Night, which added $5.1 million in its second box office weekend ($19.7 million total). Meanwhile, the amazingly resilient thriller Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth as the world's classiest spy, rounded out the top five with $4.6 million in its sixth weekend ($114.6 million total).
