This Is When Robert Downey Jr's Doctor Dolittle Will Release

Universal studio announced the release date of its new untitled Doctor Dolittle movie. The movie got summer date as it would release on May 24, 2019 in the United States. The news was announced on Monday, March 27.

Helmed by Stephen Gaghan, the movie is being bankrolled by Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum under their Roth/Kirschenbaum Films, along with Susan Downey for Team Downey. Starring Robert Downey Jr, the flick is set up against the backdrop of the 1920s tales by Hugh Lofting, following a strange doctor who can speak with animals, avoiding human patients in favour of the critters. The popular character appeared in the 1967 musical starring Rex Harrison for the first time and a 1998 reboot starring Eddie Murphy.

The studio acquired the rights to the beloved character after a heated bidding war. Downey’s casting was also announced earlier this month. On a related note, Downey was last seen as Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Age of Ultron. He will reprise the role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.
