Suman Kittur ropes in Shweta Srivatsav for a women-centric film

Critically-acclaimed film director Suman Kittur is all set to make a women-centric film based on late legendary writer Poornachandra Tejaswi’s short story Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu. The director has reportedly roped in Shweta Srivatsav to play the role of protagonist.

Speaking about the film, Suman says, "It is a heroine-oriented film that depicts the lives of girls in villages. The truth is, irrespective of how much we have progressed, women in rural districts continue to remain the same. They face the same social evils and continue to fight the same battles even today. That's one of the reasons Poornachandra Tejaswi's writing, which was way ahead of its time back then, continues to be relevant."

Talking about considering Poornachandra’s short story for his film, the director adds, "I have read a lot of his works from the time I was in school. As filmmakers, one is bound to want to convert each of his stories into films. But personally, this one stood out for me, because I too have my origins back in a village. I have been witness to actual incidents that this story is about and, therefore, feel particularly passionate about the same. Duniya Suri and I approached the writer's wife, Rajeswari Tejaswi, for the rights and approval to go ahead and make a film out of it."
