125 runs for 8 wickets in 15 overs! No one expected such a total, especially from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). SRH lost four of those eight wickets in the Powerplay itself, something unusual for SRH batters, who have scored the highest total in this year's IPL.

First, they lost Travis Head for a duck, followed by Abhishek Sharma (3 off 4) who could not do much. Rahul Tripathi came to the crease and looked to steady the innings, but he lost Nitish Reddy (9 off 10) and Shahbaz Ahmed (0 off 1) early. Heinrich Klaasen stayed for a while, scoring 32 off 21, before being sent back by Varun Chakaravarthy.

However, the horror came when a miscommunication between Rahul Tripathi and Abdul Samad saw the former get run out for 55 off 35. Later, Sanvir Singh, who was brought in as an impact sub, was bowled for a duck. Abdul Samad too only managed 16 off 12.

For KKR, Mitchell Starc proved his worth and stood up for his side when it was most needed by taking 3 wickets, while Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakaravarthy took one each.

It remains to be seen if SRH can post a defendable total against KKR at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. For now, skipper Pat Cummins is at the crease along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
