Matthew Perry had prayed for the first time in his life to bag Chandler Bing's role in Friends

Matthew Perry’s tragic death has left his fans and the entire Hollywood fraternity in a state of shock. He will forever be remembered as hilarious, witty, and the king of sarcasm, Chandler Bing from Friends. For the unversed, his bagging the part of Chandler was truly destined and the actor happened to pray for the first time in his life to land the part. Matthew Perry was broke before landing Chandler Bing's part in Friends

Talking about the same, according to a news report in ShortForm, before landing the role of Chandler Bing, Matthew was broke and had lost all hope of making it big in Hollywood. At 24 and in dire need of money, he grabbed onto the show LAX 2194. However, the show was not received very well and was also the main obstacle for him to grab a role in Friends. Around that time, the auditions for the comedy show which was then known as Friends Like Us started in full swing. Despite seeing many of his contemporaries auditioning for the show and also recommending his name for Chandler’s part, Perry was not taking the plunge for being contract-bound with LAX 2194.

Matthew Perry prayed for the first time in his life

One of his friends, Craig Bierko also auditioned for the role but rejected it since he did not want to be a part of the ensemble cast. Matthew found himself praying for the first time in his life to God for letting him grab the role. Soon, LAX 2194 got canceled and he auditioned for Friends. As destiny would have it, after 3 weeks of praying, Perry was selected to play Chandler Bing in Friends.

The report further said that the makers of Friends wanted Matthew since the beginning but kept auditioning other actors since he was already working on another show. The makers also learned later that it was Perry who helped Bierko prepare for his audition for Bing. Matthew was the last of the star cast to have been finalized for the comedy show.
