Updated : January 11, 2023 11:23 PM ISTAdnan Sami was caught in a Twitter controversy as he called out Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for his tweet celebrating RRR's Golden Globe win.
RRR ’s Golden Globe win for the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ has created history and the entire nation unified and celebrated the big win of the S.S. Rajamouli directorial on an international stage. While stars from across industries congratulated M.M. Keeravaani for leaving behind international stars like Tylor Swift, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, singer Adnan Sami seems to have taken offence to Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tweet congratulating the RRR team.
Adnan replying to the politician’s tweet called him out for opening his tweet writing, “The Telugu flag is flying high!” The singer pointed out how RRR’s Golden Globe win is a moment of national pride and a controversy ensued.
Adnan replied to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tweet saying, “Telugu flag? You mean INDIAN flag right? We are Indians first & so kindly stop separating yourself from the rest of the country…Especially internationally, we are one country! This ‘separatist’ attitude is highly unhealthy as we saw in 1947!!!Thank you…Jai HIND!”

This ‘separatist’ attitude is highly unhealthy as we saw in 1947!!!
Thank you…Jai HIND!🇮🇳 https://t.co/rE7Ilmcdzb
The Lift Kara De singer’s tweet got several responses and launched a debate about regional identities which he seemed to be opposed to on an international stage. While several users argued with Adnan about the Telugu identity of RRR and its makers, Adnan replied to several users explaining how he wasn’t opposed to the pride in the language but had problems with colouring an achievement for Indian cinema with a regional identity.
So what ur implying is that d Indian Flag represents only Hindi language? …It’s not about language dude- It’s about a united national identity wt a singular flag whr every Indian, every Language, every religion, every cast, every creed & every culture is represented equally!🇮🇳 https://t.co/rghnIUTw2k

Replying on one user who pointed out how star like Shah Rukh Khan also congratulated the RRR with a tweet in Telugu, Adnan replied, “It’s not about language!! It’s about FLAG & identity and especially in the context of the international community! ‘Read’ what I wrote!!!

If it was written that ‘Telugu Cinema has made all of India Proud’ it would have been correct & it is so true!!! https://t.co/sA3hK8QvkT

In another tweet, Adnan wrote, “When Satyajit Ray ji won an Honorary Oscar in 1991, was only Bengal proud of that achievement or did the entire India have a right to be proud? Did the CM of Bengal at that time, Sri Jyoti Basu ji declare it as only a Bengali achievement? No! It was a national moment of pride!”

A few users also attacked Adnan’s previously held Pakistani identity to troll him and were shut down by the singer in subsequent replies.
An Ex-Pakistani is the perfect person to lecture you on the consequences of what a separatist mind can lead to & the troubles that such acts can provoke since I have seen it!! https://t.co/Ld6Hosebk6

RRR was nominated at the Gloden Globes in two categories. While the movie failed to win as the Best Non-English Language Film which was won by Argentina, 1985, the movie beat big odds to win Best Original Song in a motion picture.
