Bollywood superstar Ajay Devgn's latest movie, Maidaan, has become available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. However, it is not free for subscribers. Streaming audiences can rent the movie for Rs 349 on the platform.

Maidaan was one of the biggest Bollywood releases this year. The movie opened in cinemas during the Eid holiday, and trade experts expected it to bring audiences back to theatres. However, the film ended up as one of the biggest box-office disappointments in the history of Hindi cinema.

Maidaan faced more than four years of delay before it finally made it to cinemas earlier this year. The production of the movie began in 2019 and was expected to hit the screens in 2020. However, the outbreak of the pandemic and the ensuing lockdown indefinitely delayed its release. Even after normalcy returned to theatres, Maidaan struggled to make its theatrical debut due to various reasons.

Maidaan finally arrived in cinemas on April 10, coinciding with the Eid celebration. The movie is a sports drama inspired by real-life events. Directed by Amit Sharma, the film revolves around the struggles of coach Syed Abdul Rahim (played by Ajay Devgn) to build a winning football team.

The narrative of Maidaan shares similarities with Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster Chak De India. Maidaan also tells the story of a sports coach, embattled by a major defeat, who vows to build a world-class team that can take on any opponent.

Judging from the trailer, Syed Abdul Rahim sets off to build a whole new team from scratch by recruiting potential players from the streets. He faces the massive task of building a team on a shoestring budget and training them to beat some of the world's richest football teams.

Maidaan garnered mixed reviews and subsequently tanked at the box office.
