Angelina Jolie’s daughter Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was the original choice to play a little Aurora in the 2014 fantasy film Maleficent. The movie which was based on the fairytale Sleeping Beauty starred Angelina as the evil witch who casts a spell on Aurora but had a more humanizing tint to her character. However, here’s what led to Shiloh turning down the role which was eventually done by her younger sister Vivienne.

In an interview with Elle back in 2014, Angelina Jolie revealed, “I asked Shiloh about being Aurora, and she laughed in my face. She said she’d be a horned creature.” For the unversed, the team of the movie auditioned several young girls for the role but almost all of them were afraid to do the part after looking at the Mr and Mrs Smith actress’ terrifying get-up. Ultimately, the part went to Vivienne who is two years younger than Shiloh.

Why Shiloh Jolie-Pitt had turned down Maleficent

A 2012 report in the US Weekly further reported why Shiloh Jolie-Pitt had rejected the role in Maleficent. A source close to the development had said that she was supposed to star in the movie but, “she was bored and not in the mood during the day her part was supposed to happen, so she ended up not being in the film.” Well, given that Shiloh is a spitting image of her mother, the audience would have loved seeing her as Aurora. But nevertheless, we are sure that Vivenne looked super cute in the movie.

Talking about the movie, it was helmed by Robert Stromberg. It also starred Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley, and Imelda Staunton in the lead roles. It aimed to show why Maleficent turns out to be a vengeful witch owing to a betrayal by her first love but soon her maternal instincts make her more compassionate towards Aurora.
