Bappi Lahiri’s family issues statement; last rites to be performed on Thursday after his son Bappa returns

10 days ago on 6th of February, legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar left for her heavenly abode, leaving the nation devastated. The people of our country were still coming to terms with the loss when today morning, we woke up to another heartbreaking news. One more gem of the music industry, an icon of India, Bappi Lahiri has passed away. The disco king, who gave us evergreen peppy tracks to groove on, breathed his last at Mumbai’s CritiCare hospital on Tuesday due to obstructive sleep apnea, shortly before midnight.

Some time back, the singer and composer’s family issued an official statement regarding the funeral, which will take place on Thursday, 17th February, soon after Bappi Da’s son Bappa Lahiri returns home. The statement read: “It’s a deeply sad moment for us. Our beloved Bappi Da has left for heavenly abode last midnight . The cremation will take on arrival of Bappa From LA tomorrow mid morning ,We are seeking love and blessings for his soul . We will keep you updated . Mrs .Lahiri, Mr.Gobind Bansal, Bappa Lahiri, Rema lahiri.”

According to reports, Bappi Da was hospitalized for over a month because of multiple health complications, but was discharged earlier this week. Sadly his health deteriorated a day later on Tuesday and he was brought in to the hospital after his doctor’s home visit. He was a musical genius and his loss has left a void in all of our hearts.
