Filmmaker Karan Johar was recently honoured with the coveted Vanguard Award at the Red Sea Film Festival. He became the first Indian director to receive the award for his contribution to the global entertainment business. Though Karan has no interest in moving to Hollywood for work, he has only one Hollywood-related dream to meet Meryl Streep.

In a recent media interaction, Karan admitted that he would like to have dinner with the Oscar-winning actor.“It’s the only item on my bucket list. If I could have an hour with her, I could die and go to heaven.” The director heaped praise on the actor saying, “Her ability to be relevant in any decade is so admirable. The thing about relevance is that you have to evolve with the times, and there are a few artists who understand that more than others and I think she’s one of them,” he told Variety.

On being asked if has any plans to move to Hollywood, Karan said that his heart is in India. “It took a couple of trips to Los Angeles to realize that it is all wonderful and you have a lot of meetings, but my heart is in my country and my cinema is in my heart. I don’t want to leave that. I don’t want to make films without the language that’s raised me.” He further added that he would like to have an award for a Hindi-language film and doesn’t need to make an English film to win one.

Meanwhile, Karan returned to direction after a gap of seven years with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The family drama features Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in lead roles, while Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, and Jaya Bachchan in supporting roles. Up next, Karan has a lineup of production ventures including Yodha and an untitled film with Kartik Aaryan among others.
