There has finally been a verdict on the ongoing defamation lawsuit trial between Johnny Depp and his former wife Amber Heard that had been garnering so many eyeballs for the past few weeks. The jury on Wednesday (June 1) ruled in favor of Johnny putting a stamp on the latter’s claims that Amber had falsified him abusing her before and during their marriage. The decision had the jury rule out that the actress defamed her ex-husband by calling her a victim of domestic abuse.

Amber Heard will now have to pay $15 million in damages. However, the jury also found in favor of Amber, the fact that she was allegedly defamed by Johnny Depp’s lawyers when the latter had called her allegations a hoax. While the jury has ruled that the Pirates Of The Caribbean actor is entitled to receive $15 million, Amber will be receiving $2 million. According to a news report in Hindustan Times, the fans in support of Depp had managed to grab a seat in the courtroom. Those who could not get a seat cheered for the Hollywood star outside the courtroom and also booed at Heard whenever she appeared outside the courtroom. Take a look at Depp's statement after winning the case.

Talking about the incident, Johnny Depp had sued his former wife Amber Heard for libel in the County Circuit Court due to an op-ed written by her in December 2018 for The Washington Post. The Aquaman actress had described herself to be a victim of ‘domestic abuse’ in the same. Depp’s lawyers had stated that the actor had faced defamation due to the news article even though it did not consist of his name.

The testimony primarily focused on whether Amber Heard was indeed abused by her former husband Johnny Depp as she had claimed. Heard had narrated several allegedly disturbing instances when she was abused both physically and sexually by Depp. However, Depp had always maintained that his ex-wife’s allegations are false and that he had never lost control while drinking.
