After years of uncertainty and production spanning multiple countries, director Shankar's "Indian 2" is finally set to hit the big screens. With the completion of post-production work, the main cast and crew, including Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan, are now geared up to kick-start the film's promotions.

The producers announced that Kamal and Shankar will make an appearance during Saturday's match between RCB and CSK to launch the promotions for "Indian 2" officially. "Another reason to not miss #RCBvCSK tomorrow! Catch team #INDIAN2 🇮🇳 ‘Ulaganayagan’ @ikamalhaasan & Director @shankarshanmugh on CRICKET LIVE at 6 PM on @StarSportsIndia @StarSportsTamil," tweeted Lyca Productions.

This marks an important step in nearly four years of efforts to make the sequel to the 1996 blockbuster "Indian."

The film first went on the floors in 2019 amid a lot of fanfare. The production came to a sudden halt following a tragic accident on the sets in Chennai, where three crew members lost their lives. The subsequent outbreak of the pandemic suspended production indefinitely. Later, Shankar also had a serious fallout with producers at Lyca Productions, leading the producers to initiate legal proceedings against Shankar for starting the shoot for his next film with Telugu superstar Ram Charan before completing "Indian 2."

However, the success of Kamal's "Vikram" changed the circumstances for "Indian 2." Red Giant Movies came on board as new producers, allowing Shankar to revive the project. In the second phase of production, Shankar simultaneously shot "Indian 2" and Ram Charan's "Gamechanger."

According to reports, he has shot enough footage to even make "Indian 3."

"Indian 2" was earlier expected in June, soon after the completion of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Recently, several reports have claimed that the release will be postponed by a month. The film is now expected to hit the screens in July.
