Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Moses Ingram attacked online by racists trolls co-star Ewan McGregor and Lucasfilm come to her defense
Just days after the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi, actress Moses Ingram who plays Reva Sevander on the show is attacked online by racists trolls
The growing diversity of the Star Wars franchise has always attracted racist elements within the Star Wars fan community to personally attack actors of color, Moses Ingram is the latest in a long line of actors who had to deal with online attacks and threats of violence to them and their families.
The studio was quick to release a statement supporting the actress and condemning the racist attacks against Ingram who plays a Sith Inquisitor on the new show
Previously both John Boyega and Kelly Marie Tran were the targets of such attacks, which even led to Tran leaving social media.
Ingram's co-star and series lead Ewan McGregor also came to her defense in a video he calls the people responsible for the attacks and condemns their actions saying " They are not Star Wars Fans"
“There’s nothing anybody can do about this,” Ingram said in response to the vile messages she received. “There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate. I question my purpose in even being here in front of you saying that this is happening. I don’t really know.”
She continued, “The thing that bothers me is this feeling inside of myself, that no one has told me, but this feeling that I have to shut up and take it, that I have to grin and bear it. And I’m not built like that. So, I wanted to come on and say thank you to the people who show up for me in the comments and the places that I’m not going to put myself."
Despite these events, the majority of Star Wars fans came to the actor's defense and are fans of her work on the show hopefully as the show movies forward these attacks will subside.
