Back in 2019, Priyanka Chopra Jonas promised to showcase the meaning of the modern and global Indian in an upcoming movie in partnership with actor-writer-producer-director Mindy Kaling . And now, in the latest media interaction, the latter revealed that Priyanka will be seen in the role of Punjabi Indian from India in the upcoming wedding-themed movie.

As a producer, Mindy has been highlighting the cultural differences in shows like the Netflix series, Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls for HBO Max . She strives to bring out the same differences within larger cultures in the upcoming comedy-drama for a larger audience. Talking about it, she said, “ Why would people necessarily know that if they don’t have shows that explain and explore that difference? I have this movie with Priyanka Chopra, she’s Punjabi Indian from India and I’m an Indian American Bengali girl from the East Coast. It’s so different and that’s what makes our dynamic so fun together.”

The upcoming film has been earlier touted to be the combination of Crazy Rich Asians and My Big Fat Greek Wedding as far as storytelling is considered. Well, the characters will be South Asians instead. Three years ago, Priyanka has shared Twitter post announcing her collaboration with Mindy. “Two women with a passion for telling good stories, just got the green light to THEIR story THEIR way. So proud of this incredible partnership with @mindykaling and #dangoor! We are about to show you what it means to be modern, global, and Indian. See you at the cinema!”

Meanwhile, Priyanka has completed the shooting of her upcoming Prime Video series Citadel. She will next be seen in It’s All Coming Back to Me and Ending Things. In addition, she’s gearing up for Ma Anand Sheela biopic with director Barry Levinson. She also has Farhan Akhtar’s road trip drama Jee Le Zaraa, alongside Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt .
