Seasoned actor Anupam Kher shared a video on Tuesday of himself walking with superstar Rajinikanth to the Presidential Palace in Delhi. The two were among the high-profile guests who attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "With the one and only Rajinikanth. God’s gift to mankind," said Anupam while walking alongside Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth was also accompanied by his wife Latha to the grand event, which saw the country's most notable figures in attendance. Many celebrities were present at the swearing-in ceremony of the new government led by the NDA alliance. Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar were also at the event.

A day after the results were announced on June 4, Rajinikanth made a quick visit to Delhi, which sparked massive speculation among the public. With the Modi-led BJP party failing to secure a majority on its own—272 seats—it had to rely on the strengths of its alliance partners to gain the required number of seats in Lok Sabha. Many speculated whether Rajinikanth played the role of a mediator between the BJP and the TDP.

Rajinikanth shares a close relationship with both Modi and TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu, who secured a landslide victory in the recently held assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh. His party also won 16 Lok Sabha seats in the state, making the TDP the second-biggest party in the NDA alliance.

However, Rajinikanth kept mum about his visit to Delhi.

Rajinikanth is one of the key players not just in cinema but also in Indian politics. If not for the COVID-19 outbreak and his fragile health condition, Rajinikanth would have contested the elections in Tamil Nadu by founding his own party.

After publicly announcing his withdrawal from politics, Rajinikanth has refrained from making comments on pressing political issues or openly endorsing any political parties or leaders.
