This weekend witnessed two major releases namely Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan at the box office and expectations were at their peak when it came to the movies reviving Bollywood’s dull phase at the box office. However, both movies opened to dismal collections and are now showing growth at a snail’s pace. On their third day, while Aamir Khan ’s movie showed a little growth, the same cannot be said for Akshay Kumar .

Talking about Laal Singh Chaddha, on its third day, the movie showed a considerable jump of around 20%. The movie amassed Rs 8.75 crore taking the total 3-day collections to be at Rs 27.71 crore. The Aamir Khan starrer is an Indian adaptation of Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump. A report in Box Office India stated that the movie was expected to grow with a percentage of 40% and the improvement wasn’t efficient enough, given the extended weekend. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also tweeted how the movie has to go steady till Monday to work well. His tweet stated, “#LaalSinghChaddha falls flat on Day 2... Drop at national chains... Mass pockets face steep fall... 2-day total is alarmingly low for an event film... Extremely crucial to score from Sat-Mon... Thu 11.70 cr, Fri 7.26 cr. Total: ₹ 18.96 cr. #India biz. Note: #HINDI version.”

However, the same cannot be said about Akshay Kumar’s film Raksha Bandhan. There is no improvement in its collections despite the main subject of the movie aligning with the festival of Rakhi which went by this week. The movie only managed to earn Rs 5.75 crore to Rs 6 crore at the box office. Now the total collections stand at only Rs 20.6 crore. The movie also stars Bhumi Pednekar in the lead role and is helmed by Aanand L Rai. The film has unfortunately witnessed Akshay’s third flop in a row after Bachchhan Paandey and Samrat Prithviraj.
