Rekha, Asha Parekh had on Sanjeeda Shaikh’s character in Heeramandi - 'So elated and glad...'

Sanjeeda Shaikh has become an internet sensation after her portrayal of a courtesan named Waheeda Jaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Sanjeeda’s portrayal of a complex character who has a scar on her face has captivated audiences who can’t stop talking about her acting prowess. In a recent interview, Sanjeeda revealed that not just the audience but Bollywood actresses Rekha and Asha Parekh appreciated her work, which was extremely motivating for her.

When Asha Parekh and Rekha appreciated Sanjeeda’s work

In an interview with Connect Cine, Sanjeeda recalled the love and adulation she has received for her character, Waheeda Jaan, in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Sanjeeda also spoke about the time she spoke to veteran actress Asha Parekh on the phone. She said, “Asha Parekh said I saw a beautiful girl and she had a scar on her face and later I realised that she is Sanjeeda Shaikh. Aur mujhe itni khushi hui ki aap jo deserve karti thi apko wo mila. Bahot khushi hui aapko itna accha perform karte huye. (I felt so elated that you got the part you deserved. I felt very happy to see you perform so well).”

Sanjeeda also met Rekha during the screening of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Rekha said, “Sanjeeda, where were you? I am so glad that Sanjay sir discovered you.” Sanjeeda said that it felt very motivated and nice to have felt seen and acknowledged.

In the same interview, Sanjeeda also revealed that she has become very expressive over the years and feels confident in expressing her emotions. The actress believes that this confidence begins at home, where sometimes people take their family for granted. Sanjeeda said, “You should begin the process of acknowledgment and the process of appreciation at home. Appreciation, I believe, gives you the motivation to become better.”
