Seasoned Tamil actor Sathyaraj has taken on the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an upcoming biopic drama. The news was announced by the actor's media manager, Nikil Murukan. More details are awaited. This has come as a huge surprise, considering Sathyaraj is a known critic of PM Modi.

The announced project is not the first movie to be inspired by PM Modi's life. In 2019, filmmaker Omung Kumar made a biopic drama titled PM Narendra Modi. Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi essayed the role of the prime minister in the movie. The film, however, failed to impress the critics and also tanked at the box office.

There is also a web series inspired by Modi's political journey, Modi - Journey Of A Common Man.

Sathyaraj is no stranger to playing roles inspired by real-life people. In 2007, he made quite an impression with his performance as Periyar E. V. Ramasamy in Periyar.

Sathyaraj was last seen in Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food. The film created quite a controversy over its stance on sensitive political issues. It was accused of insulting Hinduism, and consequently, its streaming was banned on Netflix. Starring Nayanthara in the lead role, it revolved around a girl's quest to become one of the top chefs in the world. First, she faces a series of obstacles owing to her family's highly conservative outlook.

Sathyaraj will next be seen in an action movie titled Weapon. The trailer for the movie was released on Friday. Based on the trailer, Sathyaraj plays the lead role in what is touted to be a sci-fi thriller. In the film, his character seems to have superhuman abilities that protect him against all kinds of deadly modern weapons. Written and directed by Guhan Senniappan, the film also stars Vasanth Ravi, Rajiv Menon, Tanya Hope, and Rajeev Pillai.
