‘Spider-Man 2’: A darker turn with venom & a ‘Symbiote Suit’ - Is spidey ready?

Spider-Man 2, a PlayStation 5 exclusive game by Insomniac Games, promises to take fans on a darker, action-packed ride this fall.

‘Spider-Man 2’: A darker turn with venom & a ‘Symbiote Suit’ - Is spidey ready?

Insomniac Games, the wizards behind the PlayStation classics, have spun yet another web, and this one's darker, more sinister, and packed with action. In the heart of their PlayStation Showcase on May 24, they unveiled a trailer for their much-awaited PS5 exclusive, 'Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.'

Kraven Joins the Hunt and Spidey's Suit Gets a Twist

The new trailer opens with the classic villain Kraven the Hunter, decked in his fur-lined vest and animal tooth necklace, setting his sights on New York City's web-slinging duo, Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

The footage also reveals gameplay featuring both Spider-Men, with an interesting twist: players can switch between Peter and Miles, each dealing with crises across different parts of NYC. The real shocker? Peter Parker donning the Symbiote Suit, showing off new abilities from the space parasite within him.

Meanwhile, tech-whiz Miles Morales gets his share of upgrades with wire-creating capabilities for stealthy maneuvers. As if the new tech and the swinging weren’t exciting enough, the trailer peaks with an 'Uncharted-style' set piece featuring Miles dragged across New York by a drone.

Peter's Symbiote Influence and a Venomous Encounter

Anyone familiar with the Symbiote arcs will recognize Peter's angsty behavior as a sign of the Symbiote’s influence over him. The narrative arc promises to provide a gripping take on this storyline in the sequel set to launch this fall for PS5.

Marvel's 'Spider-Man 2,' a single-player-only game, follows closely after the events of the first two games: 'Marvel’s Spider-Man' and the 'Miles Morales' spin-off. This installment finds our twin heroes pitted against the iconic supervillain Venom in what Marvel Entertainment’s creative VP Bill Rosemann describes as a “darker” narrative. After all, the parasitic Symbiote, known for its malevolent possession, is geared to make a grand appearance.

    More Spider-Man Treats

But that's not all the Spider-Man action slated for this year. A prequel comic book to the game, 'Marvel’s Spider-Man 2' by Gamerverse, was released on May 6, introducing a new adversary, The Hood. Not to mention, the sequel to 2018's 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,' titled 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,' is hitting theaters on June 2. And for the gaming aficionados, 'Marvel’s Spider-Man 2' is set to swing onto PlayStation 5 later this fall.
