Animal vs Sam Bahadur Box Office Day 2: Ranbir Kapoor starrer crosses Rs 100 crore mark, Vicky Kaushal's film lags behind

The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial Animal has taken over the box office like a storm. After a stupendous opening of Rs 63 crore, the film has now crossed Rs 100 crore in just two days of release. The film beat the record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 by raking in Rs 66 crore on Saturday.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer had an overall 68.28% Hindi Occupancy on Day 2 witnessing major footfalls in night shows. Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh and Pune contributed to more than 75 percent occupancy each as per reports. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala said film has raked in a massive Rs 230 crore worldwide. “In 2 days, #Animal has grossed a huge ₹ 230 Crs+ at the WW Box office,” he tweeted.

Animal, also starring Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri, opened to mixed reviews upon release. The film was bashed for glorifying toxic masculinity, despite the criticism, it has found its audience and is minting moolah at the box office. Backed by T-series, Cine1 Studios and Bhadrakali Pictures, the film focuses on a troubled father-son relationship, set in the backdrop of extreme bloodshed in the underworld.

On the other hand, the Meghna Gulzar directorial Sam Bahadur has been running slow and steady at the box office. The film had an average opening of Rs 6.25 crore on Friday. The collection saw a slight growth on the following day, earning Rs 9.25 crore. The movie is based on the life of Sam Manekshaw, the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. Besides Vicky Kaushal,the film also has Sanya Malhotra, Zeeshan Ayyub, Neeraj Kabi, and Fatima Sana Sheikh in pivotal roles. Both Animal and Sam Bahadur was released in theatres on December 1, 2023.
