Bhumi Pednekar on reports of playing freedom fighter Usha Mehta in her biopic: "Would be my dream role"

It is a known fact that filmmaker Karan Mehta is all set to make a film on his mother, freedom fighter Usha Mehta. For several weeks now, reports had also been doing the rounds that Bhumi Pednekar might be roped in to play the character and that talks are already on. Now, in a recent interview with a daily, the actress opened up about the reports.

While she kept the mystery on about whether she has been approached for the part or if talks her on, she just expressed her eagerness to be a part of a film like this. Talking to MidDay, the actress said, “Playing a freedom fighter on screen would be my dream role! I’m fascinated by such remarkable personalities and it would be an honour for me to play someone like that on screen. I actually want to do that and I hope that the universe is listening to this. I would also like to be a part of a fantasy project. There are so many different types of projects that I would love to explore and experience as an actor.”

Well, if she is indeed roped in for the part, it would be a huge feather in Bhumi's hat. The actress has, so far in her career, played several different characters right from her debut film Dum Laga Ke Haisha . Talking about her choice of films, Bhumi said, “I think one common thread in all my films or the work I have done is that I am trying to break stereotypes. I have done that right from Dum Laga Ke Haisha and I do see myself playing ambitious, vocal, beautiful, gutsy women on screen because I relate to them deeply. I’m thrilled that I’m an artiste today and that I’m living my dream every single day and creatively expressing myself freely.”

Bhumi will next be seen alongside Rajkummar Rao in Badhaai Do , where she will play the role of a PT teacher. Reportedly, the film will be about a lavender marriage. She also has several other big projects in her kitty including Bheed, Ajay Bahl’s Ladykiller alongside Arjun Kapoor , Govinda Naam Mera which co-stars Kiara Advani and Vicky Kaushal , and Raksha Bandhan with Akshay Kumar . We hope to hear more about Usha Mehra's biopic soon.
