DC has big plans for Robert Pattinson's Batman and its spinoffs, reveals director Matt Reeves

    Just days after director Matt Reeves revealed that he is working on the script for the sequel to his critically and commercially sucessfull The Batman , the director, in a recent interview, said that he would be meeting with the heads of DC to discuss the bigger future for his 'BatVerse'.

    While we did know that Matt Reeves' Batman sequel and its two spin-off series are in development and are separate from the new DC universe, the director's interview suggests that James Gunn and Peter Safran may have much bigger plans.

    The two spinoff series are being developed for HBO Max, with the first one, will be about Colin Farrell's Penguin and will be set after the events of the movie and his rise in power in Gotham City's criminal underworld.

    The second will be based on the infamous Arkham Asylum, which holds most of Batman's iconic villains. At the end of the Batman movie, we saw Paul Dano's Riddler being sent to the asylum and being befriended by Barry Keoghan's Joker.

    In the interview with Collider, Matt Reeves said that he will be meeting with both James Gunn and Peter Safran this week and they will discuss the future of the BatVerse and its border future.

    He also expressed his excitement about what the new heads of DC Studio have planned for Batverse and also assured fans that Robert Pattison Batman will remain the emotional core of the franchise.

    In the interview, Reeves said "Look, I'm excited to hear what they're going to do," Reeves continued. "The BatVerse thing, as James has said, and as Peter has said, is kind of its own thing they're letting us do.”

    Matt Reeves is currently also working on a third spinoff for The Batman and in the past, he had expressed an interest to do a spinoff focusing on lesser-known Batman villains like Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg.

    The last big screen portrayal of the character was by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the universally panned 1997 Batman and Robin, which starred George Clooney as the Dark Knight.

    'The Batman' was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2022, having grossed a total of 770 million dollars worldwide.

    Meanhwile the next big entry in the DCEU is Shazam! Fury of the GOds will be hitting theaters worldwide on 17th March 2023.
